Blue Spark, April 7, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Blue Microphones Spark Condenser Microphone, Cardioid (Electronics) I am currently attending a music recording school and compiling my home studio gear piece by piece. The Blue Spark was my first legit mic purchased and it has exceeded my expectations. It delivers a high quality sound for whatever you are using it for; Drums, vox, guitar ect. It's a fun little mic with great visual appeal. For the low price you will get what you expect from the Blue family, quality sound. I highly recommend this for your ideal home studio if you don't have a crazy amount of money to spend or just want to explore and own a Blue mic.
-Only slight concerns pertaining to the shock mount being a tad wobbly, make sure everything's tight. The assembly of the mic body (chrome and orange/red section) is quite simple. The 3 sections are basically twisted on together (which is fine) but they can become lose while attaching your mic to a mic stand, especially the bottom chrome section.

The thing is, if you're using this to record music at home or in a non-professional environment, I wouldn't recommend it. It generates a bit more noise than other condensers, the focus switch doesn't do much, and the mic is VERY sensitive to volume and sound pressure. The pop filter it comes with is pretty, but it doesn't work at all.
Also, depending on your voice, this microphone may make you sound absolutely terrible. If you're a man recording vocals, or if you have a rasp to your singing voice, I would not at all buy this microphone. The microphone is truly optimized for smoother, medium-to-high pitch voices, and it has more of a treble focus that lower midrange and bass. So far, we are pleasantly surprised...
This solid state condenser mic is straight forward with it's single cardioid pattern. Pushing the button of the FOCUS CONTROL changes EQ and drops some of the lows resulting in a sound that is a bit tighter... often described as having more clarity or detail.
The Mic seems well built enough. The only issue we've run into is that the button used for the focus control often 'hangs up' due to the assembly of the mic shell. (It can be engaged but the button gets stuck so it cannot disengage) A minor adjustment of the threaded base piece attaching to the body quickly resolves the issue.
The look of the packaging is grand with a logo silk screened on a nicely colored wooden box containing documentation plus the mic, a... Read more
