Vanity, October 10, 2010 By Kevin Leydon (Dandenong, Victoria, AU) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Microphone (Chrome) (Electronics) I purchased the mike as more or less a "vanity" item to look the part when entertaining mainly at nursing homes etc., where we mostly do older standards."pops", and nostalgia items, but at the same time wanting a unit that would give me excellent vocal performance, as well as that authentic "retro" appearance. I can say that I am not disappointed on either score. The Super 55 gives a top result, excellent response at both ends of the frequency spectrum, and the appearance I was looking for.
I did have a problem on second use, of no output unless I wriggled the connector. Removing the connector assembly in the mike and redressing the lead-outs fixed the problem.

I always was happy with the sound of the 58 but also always felt like I had to really work hard to get where I wanted to be. As of x mass 2010 I purchased the 55 super deluxe and all I can say is wow!! Crystal clear vocals, superb presence and pick up, singing in my band has regained the life it had when I first started playing! My band mates were amazed in the difference between our last practice with the 58 and the first with the 55! sound is subjective and I am very critical so I recommend you buy with confidence, you will not be sorry.

Shure has got a winner in this mic! You can spend (and I have) $120 -$150 for other mics but if you can spend a little extra money and get this mic,this will be the last mic you'll own.Truly a hit at the gigs and performs excellent!Oh did I mention it makes you want to perform better and it makes you sound better!!If you try to sing and can't carry a note this mic won't help you but if you can sing what a wonderful sound you will have!I hope this helps in your decision and Amazon is the place to purchase this fine mic.
